One part MST3K, one part Elvira, four parts cheese!

TV special that took four bad movies, compressed them into 22 minutes each and had TV's Frank Conniff write a few good lines, badly inserted by Elvira and some sitcom kids at various points in each show.

Mystery Science Theater it is not! However, as a mainstream attempt to copy MST3K, it at least demonstrates that mimicry is the best flattery. Or at least it demonstrates that some network lackey figured they could rip off the show for a total cost of $57 and a bowl of chips for the kids.

If nothing else, it allows you to see a Readers Digest view of some rotten cheese that the gang at MST3K should have riffed, but didn't:

What do you get when you take four low budget horror/sci-fi flicks, condense each to under a half hour, colorize them, add a new sound track and, oh yeah, throw in Elvira and the "stars" of Teen NBC circa 1995? I'd say this is watered down MST3K, but the riffs come even slower than a KTMA episode and aren't nearly that good. In fact, the humor quotent is largely dependent upon how funny you find Elvira and Dustin Diamond (aka Screech from Head of the Class.) TV's Frank was probably my favorite character on MST3K, but oh how the mighty have fallen. This disc is pretty good quality. There are the occasional tracking lines and, just a heads up, all the commercials are included. My biggest beef with the disc is the set top DVD recorder menu and the chapter marks that only occur roughly every half hour (not quite at the beginning of each segment.) Still, it's not that big a deal. Trust me, you're not going to be pulling this one out to view often.
